Sophia attends the Giorgio Armani: Ritrospettiva exhibit at the Terme Di Diocleziano Museum which features the designer's work since the late 1970's until 2003. The exhibit was first presented at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2000. Sophia has worn almost exclusively Armani's creations for ten years.

Sophia christens new cruise ship in Genoa and then spends a day in beautiful Portofino. MSC Opera is the second MSC Cruises' ship for which Sophia serves as official godmother.

Sophia is in Salsomaggiore Terme acting as godmother of Miss Italia nel Mondo where she crowns the winner Silvana Santarella Arellano from Venezuela.

Imagine 2004 Fund-Raiser - July 31
Sophia attends charity event at the Chalk Hill Estate Vineyards & Winery in Healdburg, CA with son Carlo, Jr. and the RNO performing. During the live auction Carlo auctions off a dinner for two cooked by his mom at her ranch in Hidden Valley for $40,000. The lot is so popular, six couples are let in on the deal, netting $240,000.

Lives of the Saints Photocall - September 7
Rome photo call for Lives of the Saints in Rome's Hotel de la Ville featuring Sophia Loren and Sabrina Ferilli. Composer and friend Armando Trovajoli is also present and plays « Tanti auguri a te » for Sophia who turns 70 a few days later.

As Venice Film Festival's godmother Sophia presents English director Mike Leigh the Leone d'Oro as best movie with "Vera Drake".

Carlo, Jr.'s Wedding - September 18
Sophia and Carlo, with some friends and family members (Maria, Giorgio Armani and her niece Roberta, Carla Fendi, Anna Strasberg, Nolan Miller, Gigi Giuliani) attend the wedding of their son Carlo, Jr. and violonist Andrea Mészáros on September 18 at St. Steven's Basilica in Budapest, Hungary. Sophia also celebrates her 70th birthday in the Hungarian capital. For the occasion, five kilograms of white truffles and several cases of wine all coming from Alba are sent for both celebration at the Akade'miai klub Budapest.

Sophia receives the Trufo dell'anno (Truffle of the Year) from the Alba White Truffle National Fair in the Barolo region. According to a long tradition, every year the best truffle is given to a world celebrity. Rita Hayworth, Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, Marilyn Monroe, Queen Elizabeth, Charles De Gaulle, Pope Paul VI, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Luciano Pavarotti and Gérard Depardieu have all received a Truffle of the Year in the past.

Sophia attends the premiere of Too Much Romance... It's Time for Stuffed Peppers at the New Italian Cinema Events in San Francisco.

Bambi Awards - November 18
Sophia is at the 56th Bambi Awards presented at Hamburg's Theater im Hafen. Sophia has been German's favorite for a long time winning a Bambi Award eight times in her career.

 The MSC Opera - December 2
Sophia is at press reception for at the end of the inaugural transatlantic sailing of MSC Opera at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

  La Scala Opera House - December 7
Sophia spends the evening with designer and friend Giorgio Armani at La Scala opera house in Milan, during the official inauguration for the reopening of the restored opera to its former glory after a sumptuous 61 million euro makeover. Maestro Riccardo Muti conducts "Europa Rinconosciuta", the opera with which the house was inaugurated 226 years earlier. Sophia wears a 1370-diamond Vulcania necklace masterpiece signed by Damiani and a black sheath dress especially designed for her by friend and designer Armani.

Wetten, Dass...? - October 2
 Sophia takes part in the 150th broadcast of the German TV show Wetten, Dass...? ('Let's Bet...?') by showmaster Thomas Gottschalk during a live transmission in Berlin. The show, which has celebrity contestants betting on whether outlandish feats can be performed or not, is one of Germany's most popular programs. Sophia appeared on the same show in October 1999.

Larry King Live - December 2
Sophia and her son Edoardo are Larry King's guests on CNN with an encore presentation on December.


Peter and the Wolf
- February 8

The Russian National Orchestra recording of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, featuring Sophia and ex-American president Bill Clinton as narrators, wins a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for Children. Introductory remarks are provided by Mikhail Gorbachev.

Edoardo Detained - September 17
The night prior to the Carlo, Jr.'s wedding, Sophia's other son, Edoardo, is detained by Hungarian police during several hours for what could be misbehavior due to alcohol. He is released right away when the authorities realize who he is.
