PORTFOLIO
Giancolombo

Born Gian Battista Colombo on March 24, 1921, in Venice, this outstanding Italian photographer made history starting in 1947 after moving to Milan. He founded in 1950 his own photo agency "Giancolombo News Photos" and in 1964, with other photogrpaphers, the Fotoreporter Italiani Associati. His pictures were published throughout the world and appeared in most Italian, French and American magazines. Giancolombo was a man of great knowledge and, indeed, a true gentleman. He was the opposite of paparazzi and was a friend of Brigitte Bardot. He died in Milan on February 24, 2005.

Giancolombo is among the first photophraphers, with Federico Patellani, to have covered
Sophia Loren's career before she was still a starlet. He was at Salsomaggiorne in 1950 for the Miss Italia
contest where Sofia Scicolone was one of the participants. Most of his pictures featuring
Sophia are from the 50's but he followed her career until the late 60's.
Giancolombo and Sophia were very close and many intimate pictures taken at Sophia's home
on via Ugo Balzani belong to this legendary Italian photographer.

His colossal photo archive, the Archivio Giancolombo is admnistered today by her daughter.
